Assistant Controller

Markit! Forestry Management is a dynamic and rapidly growing forestry company with headquarters in Colorado and operations spanning across the southwestern United States. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller who will play a pivotal role in our finance department and eventually transition into the Controller position.
The Assistant Controller will work closely with the current Controller and finance team to oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support strategic decision-making. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Assistant Controller will work closely with the current Controller and finance team to oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support strategic decision-making. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements.
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger entries.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Help establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision making and strategic planning.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts and financial projections.
- Participate in audits, both internal and external, and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Mentor and train junior staff members in accounting principles and best practices.
- Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
- Experience with developing and implementing internal controls and procedures.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience in the forestry or construction industry is preferred.

Compensation: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually dependent on qualifications and experience.
